Twisting

TWT has modeled filament stress state and twisting machine applied stress using a proprietary computer modeling system.  TWT can help you by using this model to determine if twisting defects are related to the twisting set-up or the filament stress state.  Proper filament to cable conversion during manufacture of steel tire cord is critical, meaning that for example the number of breaks per ton should be minimized for a steel tire cord plant to remain competitive.  Most twist related defects and issues can be traced to filament properties, especially if issues are spread across many twisting machines.  Filament stress state and the resulting changes to the filament as material is subjected to varying applied stresses during twisting relate directly to the success of the twisting process.

TWT has also developed a model specifically for Super Tensile, Ultra Tensile and Mega Tensile cable using your historical data and preferred customer Ppk values for cable linear density, filament breaking load and cable strength to determine the proper control limits and aims for filament diameter and filament breaking load.  Implementation of this program will help ensure that your customers' higher strength cable requirements for cable linear density and breaking load can be consistently maintained.
