Diffusion Technology

Background:

Brass coating of the proper chemistry promotes rubber adhesion.  Uniformity and type of brass are essential for economic manufacture of higher strength products (HT, ST, UT, MT).  Brass crystal structure plays important role in wet drawing; the copper-rich, FCC alpha brass phase is preferred to BCC beta brass.  FCC brass will improve wet drawing higher strength materials to small diameters and large true strains.

New Diffusion Technology:

Some technology exists to help insure a high percentage of alpha brass.  This technology is relatively inexpensive and can be used with existing diffusion lines without altering the fine patented microstructure or increasing zinc vaporization or oxide formation.  The technology is necessary to manufacture high strength products (ST, UT, MT) economically.
